Jarrod Murray

I speak Design, Product, and Engineering, and I navigate the gray areas between them

Senior product and UX leader with 15+ years spanning UX research, product strategy, and front-end development across B2B SaaS, life sciences, financial services, and healthcare. Design, product, and engineering each have their own language, and most teams split that work across three or four people. I've made a career out of connecting those dots, most recently designing the documentation and workflow patterns that let a team build with AI instead of just talking about it. Certified Usability Analyst (CUA). Full case studies at jarrodmurray.com.

Core Competencies

Experience

Director of Product & UX Captivated
04/2022 – 05/2026
  • Led end-to-end product design and UX strategy for a B2B SaaS communications platform, driving information architecture, interaction design, usability testing, and design system governance across a full platform modernization
  • Owned product roadmap, feature prioritization, and acceptance criteria as Product Owner across multiple initiatives
  • Designed and implemented a scalable AI-ready documentation framework, replacing traditional user stories with structured Capability Briefs that improved engineering clarity and accelerated AI-assisted development
  • Led enterprise identity and authentication design, including identity-first login flows, SSO, MFA enforcement, multi-org context switching, and activity-based session management
  • Conducted competitive analysis, defined naming strategy, and designed a next-generation website conversation entry point, API-first, compliance-aware, with AI-assisted routing
  • Facilitated all Scrum ceremonies as Scrum Master and introduced Agile methodologies to improve delivery predictability
  • Built and operationalized a product analytics platform to track user behavior and inform iterative design decisions
  • Designed a zero-to-one geo-location feature for field technicians inside a platform with no address data model, identifying and scoping all prerequisite infrastructure before a single line of feature code was written
  • Built a high-fidelity Figma prototype with skeleton loading states, mock data, and animated interactions before scoping began, used to validate the concept at a green industry conference and secure prioritization
  • Designed a two-swipe, two-tap mobile workflow for field technicians, surfacing the five closest contacts by geo-location with no search, no navigation, and no decisions that could slow someone down standing next to a truck
  • Restructured a flat, single-level application navigation into a two-tier information architecture supporting 10 distinct sections with contextual sub-navigation, establishing the structural foundation for a multi-year product roadmap
  • Designed a global search tool for internal super admins that surfaced organizations, accounts, users, campaigns, and channels with direct deep links to each entity, reducing a navigation task that previously required 4-6 clicks to a single interaction
  • Inherited an undifferentiated backlog of 50-60 open issues with no distinction between bugs and intended behavior, triaged and stack-ranked the full list, and maintained it as a living prioritized backlog integrated into active sprint planning
  • Served as primary QA reviewer for an AI-assisted React component migration, validating output against Figma specifications and enforcing component consistency to prevent pattern drift across the modernized application
Senior UX Researcher Driven Data
04/2021 – 04/2022
  • Designed a B2B SaaS analytics platform helping automotive dealerships track and optimize advertising performance, replacing a legacy Klipfolio dashboard with a purpose-built, research-informed tool
  • Led end-to-end mixed-methods research strategy including generative interviews, usability testing, and synthesis
  • Introduced and operationalized the System Usability Scale, establishing a repeatable usability measurement practice where none had previously existed
  • Ran two rounds of moderated usability testing on a net-new B2B SaaS product, from low-fidelity concept through high-fidelity prototype, with five internal participants per round, and iterated the design between sessions based on findings
  • Achieved a System Usability Scale score of 84 (Excellent, 90–95th percentile) on a first-time-seen B2B SaaS product with no training given, with all five participants completing an 8-click minimum task in under one minute
  • Elevated organizational research maturity through documentation, education, and cross-functional collaboration
  • Absorbed full Product Owner responsibilities overnight following a company restructuring, inheriting an existing backlog in Azure DevOps and independently maintaining sprint planning, user story writing, and feature prioritization through an acquisition
  • Designed a drawer-based UX pattern for channel-contextual audience management, choosing the drawer over a tab or modal to keep users in context of the channel they were configuring without interrupting their workflow
Senior UX Designer (Consultant) Onebridge
03/2020 – 04/2021
  • Designed the UI and workflows for an AI/ML-powered regulatory document search tool, enabling researchers and regulatory affairs staff to query across FDA, EMA, and global regulatory sources in plain language and receive ranked results with source citations
  • Inherited an MVP executive dashboard at a Fortune 500 pharmaceutical company and drove usability improvements across information hierarchy, data presentation, and layout, including a slide-in drawer pattern that became the platform standard for detail navigation
  • Secured stakeholder buy-in on a contested design change by requesting a parallel dev environment to demonstrate the improvement in working code rather than in a static mockup
  • Adapted a research process to work effectively through a stakeholder proxy with no direct access to end users, grounding design decisions in usability principles and comparative evidence rather than stakeholder opinion
  • Conducted heuristic evaluations and co-facilitated user research on an enterprise application, synthesized findings into prioritized UI/UX recommendations, and presented results to stakeholders in a formal deliverable
  • Designed across two distinct products simultaneously within a single client engagement, one executive-facing and one researcher-facing, each with different users, constraints, and data complexity
UX Lead Brooks Life Sciences
04/2019 – 03/2020
  • Hired as the company’s first UX employee; established a UX practice from scratch within 90 days, including research operations, usability testing protocols, a cross-functional UX playbook, and design system governance for a life sciences informatics platform
  • Led UX strategy and design for Platform One, a ground-up LIMS replacement serving hundreds of employees across three shifts, spanning project intake, billing, sample manifesting, data entry, and freezer storage with up to 100 data points per bio-sample
  • Built a research insights repository in Airtable with 1,000+ tagged evidence entries — audio recordings, video sessions, and screenshots — giving the organization searchable, filterable access to accumulated user knowledge for the first time
  • Conducted job shadowing, attitudinal surveys, and stakeholder interviews across user roles, translating findings into structured personas and feeding evidence directly into a shared insights database accessible org-wide
  • Designed CodeFreeze, a Material Design component library built on Atomic Design principles, and recruited a React developer to implement it in production — resulting in full team adoption on the platform’s first shipped module
  • Authored a UX Playbook and launched a recurring cross-functional huddle open to R&D leadership, product owners, and developers within 90 days of joining — establishing shared UX language and process across the organization
Senior UX Designer NextGear Capital by Cox Automotive
03/2017 – 04/2019
  • Redesigned the dealer portal authentication and self-service password reset flow after login failures spiked 226.9% following an auth provider change, tracing root causes across 5 departments and 3 systems — resulting in manual account unlocks dropping from 1,983 to 31 in the first month post-launch, saving $15,303 per month in support costs
  • Authored an 11-page problem statement mapping credential failures across application submission, onboarding, and first login — reframing what looked like a UI bug as a systemic workflow problem and earning stakeholder alignment on a phased fix spanning backend, content, and interface layers
  • Designed a risk assessment dashboard for financial analysts by shadowing users, mapping data frequency across a 5-tab Access database, and building a new information hierarchy that surfaced the two key decision signals — the manager said she could make 80% of her decisions from a single section
  • Conducted a full UX audit of a 5-step vehicle floor plan financing wizard used by 19,500+ eligible dealers, synthesizing hundreds of KissMetrics responses into 9 named pain point categories and mapping a 48.4% funnel conversion rate against a $6.17 per-unit processing cost
  • Supported 8–12 development teams as a centralized UX resource across a B2B floor plan financing platform, gathering requirements, facilitating design sprints, and conducting usability testing — operating as an opt-in advisory function while driving adoption where teams engaged
UX Designer III Seven Corners
12/2015 – 03/2017
  • Hired as the company’s first UX employee; established research operations, usability testing protocols, and design standards for a legacy insurance platform spanning policies, members, claims, groups, and adjudications
  • Led end-to-end UX for an online claims submission workflow, from nine cross-departmental stakeholder interviews and firsthand competitive analysis through low-fidelity prototype testing to shipped product; verified with the CTO one year post-launch that processing time dropped from up to 45 days to 5 days
  • Redesigned a 16-item fixed sidebar into a categorized 4-column mega menu with restructured IA, recovering 38% of screen real estate for internal users; built a working HTML/CSS/JS prototype to communicate interactions beyond what static Sketch and InVision could show
  • Designed a reusable bulk data entry component supporting manual entry, CSV import, bulk row management, and real-time group quote generation; architected to be shared across multiple workflows in the platform
